Breville was founded in 1932 in Sydney. As you might guess, it is an Australian brand. The name of “Breville” was created by combining the surnames of the founders, Bill O’Brien and Harry Norville, a radio salesman, and an engineer, respectively. Breville delivers kitchen products to more than 70 countries. The brand mainly focuses on kitchen appliances.

In the first times of the company, they produced and sold radios. After this period, they focused on small appliances. In the 1960s, they established the R&D center to design and build new products. About De’Longhi

De’Longhi was founded in 1902 in Italy as a  workshop. In 1950 the company incorporated.

De'Longhi vs. Breville

De’Longhi’s first product was an oil-filled radiator in 1974. Millions of people used this radiator, and the product became very popular at that time. At the beginning of the 1980s, the company entered the US market. Their first portable air conditioner, Pinguino, was an iconic product. It was launched in 1986.

De’Longhi entered the coffee machine industry in 1993 with its first espresso coffee maker: “BAR5”. In 2003, the company launched its first super-automatic espresso machine: “Magnifica”.

A milestone agreement was made between Nespresso and De’Longi to distribute of capsule coffee machines in 2004. In 2007, the De’Longhi Group produced and launched Lattissima, thanks to the partnership. It is the first and only automatic cappuccino Nespresso machine.

De’Longhi not only focused on producing but also innovations. The IFD (Instant Froth Dispenser) was a vital innovation, especially for developing automatic cappuccino technology.

Which one is better under $100?

After filtering by the brands, we found two espresso machines under $100, and all of them are De’Longhi:  De’Longhi EC155 15 Bar Pump Espresso and Cappucino Maker, and De’Longhi EC260BK Stilosa Espresso Machine.

De’Longhi Stilosa is a relatively new listed product on Amazon. 15 bar pump ensures the perfect pressure to make espresso. Manual milk frother allows us to make cappuccino, latte, or flat white.

De’Longhi 15 Bar Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker is one of the best sellers products in the semi-automatic espresso machines category on Amazon. Removable water tank makes the cleaning easy. Thanks to its compact design, it does not take too much space on a countertop.

Result: Under $100 price category, the winner is De’Longhi. While there are two different De’Longhi espresso machines, Breville does not supply and offer any machine at the price level on Amazon. Therefore, we could not compare them in this segment, and De’Longhi became the winner.

Actually, there are no enough options under $100. You may want to choose a Moka pot instead of an espresso maker for this budget. Which one is better between $100-$300?

Note for clarification: In these categories, we excluded Nespresso machines. Although there are products of Nespresso Machines by De’Longhi and by Breville in the price segments, we will compare and commented on them as a separate part later in the article.

We listed five options between $100-$300, one of them is Breville, and the other five of them are De’Longhi: Breville Cafe Roma ESP8XL, De’Longhi ECP3120/ECP3420, De’Longhi EC702, De’Longhi BCO430/BCO430BM, De’Longhi Dedica EC680M.

Breville Cafe Roma provides you to control espresso shot volume manually. Brushed stainless steel body and the warming tray are some of the advantages. The warming tray can heat six espresso cups.

De’Longhi ECP3120/ECP3420 has Advanced Cappuccino System. Thanks to the system, you can prepare textured drinks. The water tank is removable, and the water level can be easily visible to know how much water left in the tank.

De’Longhi EC702’s two separate thermostats ensure controlling water and steam pressure separately.

De’Longhi BCO430/BCO430BM has two sides: the left side allows you to make espresso, cappuccino, and latte, while the right side can brew drip coffee. Its advanced active carbon filter provides better taste by keeping water fresh.

De’Longhi Dedica has a compact and sleek design. It fits on your kitchen countertop elegantly thanks to its stainless steel construction. You can adjust the double drip tray to place taller cups.

Result: Breville does not have an absolute advantage with its Cafe Roma machine over De’Longhi options. De’Longhi’s machines also do not have a significant advantage or better consumer reviews against Breville. So, our criterion will be the number of products in this price category. Therefore, the winner is De’Longhi, because the brand offers 4 of 5 options on this list.

Which one is better between $300-$600?

We found four options in total for this price category: three of them are Breville, and one of them is De’Longhi. You can adjust the parameters by programming, and it can remember your settings to make your customized espresso drinks according to your preferences. The steel burr grinder ensures maximum freshness for every cup.

Result: According to customer reviews on Amazon, all of three Breville machines’ users reported better experiences and gave higher ratings than De’Longhi Magnifica users. Also, Breville has more alternatives in this price category than De’Longhi. On the other hand, De’Longhi Magnifica is a super-automatic espresso machine. In this price level, finding a good super-automatic espresso machine is not easy. After all these comparisons, the winner is Breville because it has more options, and its users gave more positive feedbacks. However, if a super-automatic espresso machine is the main character of your dreams, then just for you, the winner can be De’Longhi.

Which one is better between $600-$1000?

We listed and chose eight options in this category after filtering by price range. Three of them are Breville, and five of them are De’Longhi. De’Longhi Magnifica XS and De’Longhi Magnifica (ESAM04110S) are fully automatic espresso machines with a manual cappuccino system. Their burr grinder has 13 adjustable settings. You can adjust them according to your preferences. Using pre-ground coffee for regular, specialty, or decaf choices is also possible. You can also customize one-touch drinks.

De’Longhi La Specialista is the Reddot Design Award winner of 2019. Its active temperature control with a dual heating system stabilizes the temperature for the best results. Result: Let’s analyze some criteria to decide which brand is better in this price category. Firstly, according to customer reviews, Breville earns a point against De’Longhi. Secondly, if we look to features that the brands add to the products, De’Longhi earns a point, because they have a significant advantage thanks to TrueBrew Over Ice technology that used in Dinamica. Thirdly, although we found more De’Longhi options than Breville, Breville also offers three espresso machines. There is no significant superiority in this criterion. As a result, it is hard to announce a winner in this category. De’Longhi may be a winner because of extra features, while Breville may be a winner because of better customer reviews.

Which one is better between $1000-$2000?

We found four espresso machines for $1000-$2000 price range. Two of them are Breville, and the other two of them are De’Longhi machines: Breville the Dual Boiler BES920XL, Breville the Oracle BES980XL, De’Longhi Eletta, De’Longhi Magnifica Smart.

Before go in details of the comparison, it is just to remind, wrong coffee beans may damage and clog a super-automatic espresso machine. It is good to use less oily coffee beans for espresso. That means that medium or light level roasted coffee beans would be better choices.

Breville the Dual Boiler has three color options: Stainless Steel, Cranberry Red, Black Sesame. The machine includes a dual boiler heating system. One of them for the espresso shot, while another one for steaming your milk. LCD assists you to help for descaling steps. The machine comes with a water hardness test strip.

Nespresso Machine by Breville vs Nespresso Machine by De’Longhi

Breville and De’Longhi also produce espresso machines for Nespresso. There are many different options. Most of Nespresso machines by either De’Longhi or Breville have very good customer reviews from happy users. Their five-star rating rates are also very high if we compare them with other espresso machines.

 

Because of the number of options, we won’t compare the brands’ Nespresso machines in models. This comparison will be made as a separate article on www.makeandwakeup.com. For now, it is possible to say that both brands produce high-quality Nespresso machines and make the users happy. Both brands are a winner for this part, for this article.
